Every year a number of students transfer to another Medical University either due to difficulty of adjusting to the academic environment, inability to follow the courses or the lack of financial resources.
Students who have completed at least one semester at any accredited Medical University are entitled to transfer at any Bulgarian Medical University. Students have to submit their official transcripts, which should contain the grades of courses passed together with the hours of study and credits for each course (ECTS) as well as any other relevant information (seminars, laboratories and practical training. Afterwards, the Dean’s Faculty Council will compare the applicant’s transcripts to the School’s study programme to decide which courses will be recognized and the year of entrance for the applicant.
The study programmes and curricula of Medical Universities are not always the same (especially the hours of study for each course) and sometimes the applicant will have to attend and sit for an exam if deemed to be short in hours of training or course lectures which he or she has previously passed at another university. However, students who transfer to a Bulgarian University are usually at an advantage as more often than not they are given the opportunity to complete their medical, dental or veterinary studies sooner.
Finally, many graduates holding an undergraduate or postgraduate degree and work experience in a field of study relevant to medical, dental or veterinary studies, such as nursing, midwifery or dietetics, among other related fields, may meet the prerequisites and are allowed to enrol in the 2nd or 3rd semester of medicine, dentistry or veterinary studies.
