+ The 4-Year Graduate Entry Programme

This programme is divided into pre-clinical and clinical years.

Pre-Clinical Year
  • The 4-Year Graduate Medicine Programme is taught entirely in English with students studying on-campus for the first year in Derby, UK then completing three years of clinical rotations in medical facilities and hospitals.
  • This programme is open to graduates who hold a Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) in a science-related field such as Biomedical Science.
Clinical Years
  • From Years Two to Four, students complete medical training and lectures in clinical settings.
  • Graduates are qualified with a global medicine degree and trained in professional medical facilities and hospitals.
  • Students will complete the majority of the studies in Georgia.
+What are the UK Campus Study Options?
  • New Vision University (NVU) graduate entry students will have the option to study their pre-clinical modules on-campus in Derby in the UK.
  • NVU has commenced developing and converting a 44,000 sq. ft. building that will be a modern UK Campus with pre-clinical learning facilities.
  • The building will open to students in late 2021 with digital and traditional teaching spaces, scientific laboratories, and professional medical training equipment.
+What Do the Lectures Entail?
  • Lectures will give students the chance to get hands-on experience with medical practicing equipment while also providing training on how to measure, read and evaluate results.
  • Lectures will also offer practical training and up-skilling in operating the machines.
  • They will include a variety of mandatory training with as resuscitation and anaphylaxis management equipment.
+ What Do the Clinical Rotations Entail?
  • Attending clinical ward rounds, presentations and teachings.
  • Learning patient disease management with consultants and senior training registrars.
  • Hands-on experience with patient disease clerking.
  • History-taking.
  • Hands-on clinical examination.
  • Attending errands related to patient disease management, pathology testing, taking bloods, and other investigations.
  • Attending and learning other ward procedures such as catheter change.
  • Attending outpatient clinics.
  • Learning to write discharge letters and admission notes.
  • Learning clinical skills and communication to patients and families
  • Participation in on-call duties and learning on-call procedure with the assigned doctor.

Applicants must provide the following information:

  1. An application which includes the following details: bio, education history and course for which you are applying.
  2. A copy of your secondary education results with subjects studied.
  3. Documents from your home country confirming that you are authorised to study in Georgia.
  4. Two small photos of 4-5cm.
+Admission Documents for Clinical Rotations

You will need to provide the following:

  1. Valid immigration status (i.e. you should be able to stay in the UK without a Visa)
  2. DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service)
  3. Medical Screening (this is a report with vaccinations etc.)
  4. Occupational Clearance (i.e. a local GP will need to issue a letter that the student is fit to study)
  5. Register with a local GP practice
  6. Indemnity Insurance
  7. An up-to-date CV
  8. Valid transcript from previous years
  9. Logbook
  10. Nametag
  11. Prove financial capability (bank statement or a letter from parents)
  12. UK address and contact details
  13. The name and contact details of your next of kin

+Medical Council Requirements for Recognising Medical Degrees
  • Many of the world’s Medical Councils require that the Medical School that awarded the Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) be listed on the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDMS.
  • Additionally, each region has its own requirements:
    • UK
      • The General Medical Council (GMC) expects a medical degree to have a minimum 5,500 Clock Hours over a minimum period of three years.
    • USA
      • The Educational Commission For Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) requires a medical degree to have a minimum duration of four years.
    • Australia
      • The Australian Medical Council (AMC) maintains an additional database of Recognised Medical Schools.
      • It also requires a medical degree to have a minimum duration of four years.
+Is Online Study Offered?
  • Online studies (distance learning studies), are not currently recognised by any of the world’s Medical Councils.
  • Online study is not offered as a study option.
  • In the UK, the General Medical Council (GMC), requires the following for international medicine:
    • A minimum of 5,500 Clock Hours.
    • Clock hours consist only of Lectures, Tutorials (Seminars) and Clinical Training.
    • This does not include Distance Learning, Exams or Individual Work.
  • In the US, the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG):
    • Approves medical schools that have a physical campus, and,
    • Whose main educational operations are conducted in the country of registration.
  • When medical graduates apply for registration, all Medical Councils assess the evidence of studies, including online study:
    • Students are advised to have a formal explanation prepared, if requested, including evidence and exception documentation for online studies completed during Covid-19.
